Awesome DIY Condiments

Just in case you’re as intrigued by the idea of making your own condiments as we were, if not more, here’s a list of 15 of our very favourite kinds, as approved by our families!

1. Bottled herbed vinegar

Whether you use it for dipping bread in mixed with oil or for lightly seasoning your fries with, vinegar is a delicious and fantastic thing. We’re huge fans of white vinegar, malt vinegar, and even seasoned vinegar, but did you know that you can season your very own vinegar using herbs? Well, just in case you didn’t, here’s an awesome tutorial from The Bald Gourmet for making all kinds of mouth watering bottled vinegars! Of course, you have to leave them bottled for a while to really make sure they absorb the flavour, but we promise you they’re worth it in the end.

2. Homemade garlic-herb butter

When we started talking about condiments, we understand that butter might not have actually been one of the things that came to mind. We’re pretty sure, however, that you’ll be pleased to learn about DIY seasoned butter recipes like this one from Live Simply anyways! As if a delicious slathering of butter doesn’t already taste delicious enough on a warm piece of homemade bread or a pile of creamy mashed potatoes, this tutorial guides you through the process of adding garlic and rosemary to the mix so you get amped up flavour with every smear.

3. Sage and lemon balm vinegar

Perhaps you were quite intrigued by the idea of making custom seasoned vinegars but you weren’t sure any of the flavours you saw there were quite for you? Maybe you were worried that that particular process would take a little too long for your high paced life. Either way, we’d suggest checking out this tutorial from Kara Lydon as an alternative! Their tutorial shows you step by step how to make a delicious vinegar using sage and lemon balm.

4. Sun-dried tomato and herb butter

Did we really catch your attention when we started talking about homemade butter recipes with a kick of extra flavour but you tend to avoid garlic because you don’t like feeling as though you can taste it for days after you’re finished whatever you ate? Then perhaps you’d prefer this recipe from Inspired by Charm instead! They show you how to mix in various delicious and fragrant herbs, as well as mouth watering sun dried tomato. Eating a plain slice of bread with butter has never tasted so good!

5. Whipped basil and thyme butter

If you’re going to start making your own flavoured butter batches, would you rather make something a little closer to what you’ve tried in fancy restaurants, when they bring you a delicious basket of fresh, steaming bread before your main course? In that case, we think perhaps you’d enjoy this whipped recipe from Cooking Maniac a little more! They show you how to get the perfect texture while also adding delicious flavour with basil and thyme!

6. Garlic herbal vinegar

Perhaps we really made you salivate when we started talking about garlic herb flavoured things but you’re not actually a butter person and you know you won’t eat it, even if you go to the trouble of making it? Then why not take those flavours to a different kind of condiment instead? We’ve tried this amazing garlic and herb infused vinegar by My Healthy Homemade Life several times and we’d swear by it. It’s simple and scrumptious!
